Mother or father with hid weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a concealed weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The school had early release and college students were released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the parent, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His injury was not serious.

The school district stated White was contained in the building, near the foyer area, and never within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers stated there was no menace made and the parent didn't have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers have been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been 5 instances in North Texas related to weapons introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom said their minds instantly considered the worst when they were notified.

No guardian ever wants there to be a motive for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help however think the worst when they do.

"When I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I was shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that realizing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer received a notification on their telephone saying someone was in the building," he stated.

Guns will not be allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply terrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to happen, but you by no means need to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington college and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a college taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed said Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If something occurred, you’ve bought to run wherever that’s secure and hide," she told her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be accomplished now. 

"They wish to discuss it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to really pass any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
