Taliban leader orders women to wear all-covering burqa in public: Decree

Afghanistan’s supreme chief and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the nation’s girls to wear the all-covering burqa in public - one of the harshest controls imposed on women’s lives since the Taliban seized power.

“They need to put on a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it's conventional and respectful,” said a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was launched by Taliban authorities at a perform in Kabul.

“Those ladies who will not be too previous or younger must cover their face, besides the eyes, as per sharia directives, with a view to keep away from provocation when assembly men who are not mahram (adult close male kin),” the decree mentioned.

It added that if girls had no necessary work exterior it was “higher they keep at residence.”

Throughout their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed similar restrictions on women.
