A California district attorney declined to file costs Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Legal professional Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no charges be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its evaluation of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery against another passenger on an airplane while ready at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.
"Our determination is that we will not file any charges in opposition to Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the sufferer leading up to the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, in addition to the requests of both the victim and Mr. Tyson that no fees be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't show what occurred earlier than the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement businesses "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
